About the tour

At Your Service Cancún Presents, Tulum & Yal Ku Lagoon Snorkel

Located 131 KM (81 miles) south of Cancun along the coast of the spectacular Mexican Caribbean. This archaeological site was built in the late 13th century, during the Mayan Post-Classic period. Tulum was originally called Zama, meaning 'sunrise' in the Mayan language. From many findings at the site, it is known that other cultures traded with the Maya. Tulum was a major seaport, trading mainly in turquoise and jade. Today, it is the second most visited archaeological site in Mexico. One of the few walled Mayan cities, it has walls on three sides and the Caribbean Sea on the other, built to be a fortress.

Nothing compares to the fantastic snorkeling experience in Yal Ku Lagoon, Akumal, or the Grand Cenote. A cenote is a natural sinkhole formed when limestone bedrock collapses, exposing underground rivers. Especially common in the Yucatán Peninsula, cenotes were sometimes used by the ancient Maya for sacrificial offerings.

Yal Ku Lagoon is a hidden and charming spot, a mix of salt and fresh water that is calm and crystal-clear. As soon as you enter, you are surrounded by colorful fish. The rock formations create a fascinating underwater landscape, home to exotic sea creatures. You can easily spot starfish, sea urchins, and multicolored fish — truly one of the hidden gems of the Riviera Maya.

For this excursion, please bring comfortable shoes or sneakers for walking around the ruins and sandals for swimming. Take comfortable clothes, towels, and biodegradable sunscreen. Note: we do not provide snorkeling equipment, but it is available for rent at each location.
