At Your Service Cancún presents, Cobá & Mayan Village

This tour is best for those who want to enjoy getting to know the Mayan Culture up-close.

We will visit one of the main Mayan ancient cities in the area, locked inside the jungle surrounded by native vegetation. Two lagoons surround Cobá, (waters stirred by the wind) city. You can enjoy shaded walkways that are the original sacbe (white roads), three settlements that show the architecture and vast area of this once large city. The three main areas that can be viewed in the Coba Ruins are the Nohoch Mul structures (main pyramid), Conjunto Pinturas (spiritual area) and Macanxoc structures (close to the lagoon that bears the same name).

This is the only Mayan site that preserves great variety of stelae, large stone slabs, throughout the Coba site displayed under thatched. The stelae contain drawings and glyphs that document major events and historical facts that happened in the city of Cobá. This is what archeologists use to decipher the history and movements of the Mayan culture throughout the area.

We will then be visiting nearby communities to get an up closer look on their ways of life, customs and local cuisine. Followed by a visit to a cenote. This is a deep, water-filled sinkhole in limestone that is created when the roof of an underground cavern collapses. This creates a natural pool which is then filled by rain and water flowing from underground rivers. The word cenote comes from the Mayan word dzonot, which means "well."

For this tour, please bring runners or hiking boots for walking on the ruins and sandals for snorkeling and bathing. Don’t
forget comfortable clothes, towels and sunscreen. We don’t carry snorkel equipment, but it is available for you to rent.
